[Entertainment] A Singer Brings up Sexism in Tiffany's Flag Controversy

Recently, Girls' Generation (SNSD) member Tiffany sparked controversy after uploading a picture that includes the Japanese Rising Sun flag on Korea's Liberation Day. The details of the incident and its aftermath have been reported on many K-pop gossip sites. Here, we show a comment from a singer who attributed the controversy's severity to sexism, and netizen comments on her remark.

Today Humor is one of the popular web forums where various topics are discussed. While the community is largely aligned with the left of the Korean political spectrum, they have expressed strong complaints against the Justice Party that made positive statements about Megalia, which caused internal discord in the party and a retraction of the statements.

[Today Humor] Indie Singer Oh Ji-eun "Tiffany is bashed more because she is a woman"
Date: August 19, 2016

Oh Ji-eun: I think the situation got worse like this because Tiffany is a young woman. A while ago, there was an incident where female idols [AOA members] had to apologize in tears regarding Ahn Jung-geun. Don't things like this happen too frequently? Don't you think young women are particularly caught in such controversy?
Ah...I really didn't want to post this poop here... She forces the controversy to fit into her misogyny rhetoric claiming it wouldn't have been this much if it was a male idol who did it... I think she tweeted that it is so regretful that she couldn't buy the Megalian t-shirt before. It is truly carcinogenic. The tweet was retweeted more than 1,000 times.

The grand theory that everything in the world boils down to misogyny.

Please stop talking about your flimsy feelings. Write your posts based on facts...

1. Check if there were similar incidents caused by male idols.
2. Check if they got away easily.

If you cannot prove it... you would have to say there are other reasons why female idols got involved in such incidents more frequently. I can't say it out loud with my own mouth anyway....;;;;

Let me inevitably use some gender divisive rhetoric here. There was a controversy when Big Bang's TOP wore a shirt with the Rising Sun flag. Who do you think mostly shielded him? Men or women? ㅋㅋㅋ Try it.

If it was a male idol who did it, he would've been bashed just as much... I don't know why she has to project her victim complex and assume the strong backlash is because Tiffany is female. It was none other than our Liberation Day. I think it was the right decision to drop her from the show considering the show and Tiffany herself's image.

In my opinion, if it was a male idol, he wouldn't have been bashed as much. Why? If a female idol does something wrong, male fans tend to admit her wrongdoing. However, if a male idol does something bad, don't many female fans get all defensive and go "Oppa didn't mean it"?

Female idol example: Jeon Hyosung
Male idol examples: Big Bang, Block B

So, for the same incident, isn't it that female idols get bashed relatively more because male idols are excused by many female fans? I'm not trying to say all men are like this and all women are like that. But I cannot ignore my empirical experience. Oh well, I guess my comment will open the Collosseum here.

So I guess Jang Dong-min, Block B, Kim Sang-hyuk, Yoo Seung-joon, No Hong-chul, Lee Hyuk-jae, Lee Soo-geun, Shin Jung-hwan, Go Young-wook and MC Mong are all female;

A typical Megalian way of thinking.

I have been enjoying Oh Ji-eun's music... I liked her unique and pretty voice and music....ah....aaaah ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ.......
류세라: [+62]
So the fact that Block B was bashed to death getting called Flop B is filtered by those Megalian brains? Zico even had to shave his head as an expression of apology ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

2PM's Jay Park was dropped from MBC program Nodaji for his disparaging remarks about Korea.

Just no. [To Oh Ji-eun]
나익키: [+40]
So Jang Dong-min was a female idol?

What she claims is that it is too much when Tiffany might have done it without knowing it... It's either that she doesn't know what the Rising Sun flag or Liberation Day means or that she is a terminal attention whoring patient. Or she is an idiot whose vision is limited to about 15 degrees ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Block B didn't even cause an incident of that level. They were still bashed to death because they said they don't eat rice pizza at a rice festival. This is invisible to those Megalian eyes? Or they pretend to not know ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
결코다시지름: [+31, in response to 잉큐]
That incident is not very well known. Block B was bashed so much when they mockingly said they have lots of money and they would donate mere 7,000 won for Thailand's flood disaster in an interview.

Jay Park had to leave 2PM and move back to the US just because it was known that he complained a bit while he was a trainee. I remember he was able to resume his activities in Korea almost 2 years later. Tiffany has been active in Korea much longer than 10 years. It's not like she doesn't know what the Rising Sun flag or Liberation Day is. Her fans already warned her when she uploaded a picture with the Japanese flag a day ago. She still ignored it and uploaded the Rising Sun flag on our Liberation Day. So Tiffany was dropped from a show. Are you saying this is too severe?
to계피: [+32]
She is a Megalia user. She reads posts on Megalia and retweets them.
카인의도시: [+19]
She is a hardcore Megalian. She has been saying bullshit since the Nexon voice actress incident. She has constantly been doing this. It is well known that she is a Megalia user. She is a Megalian, period. I heard she is the wife of Sweet Sorrow's Sung Jin-hwan. We will have to distance from him, too, since he cannot influence his spouse properly. It's been one month.
